To create movement pressure is to assure that your opponent is required to change directly quickly while covering much territory on the court.

In order to do this you need to play a clear to force him back and then volley a drop shot followed by a return of a net shot.  As you can see in this scenario, your opponent when playing singles is running all over the place and needing to think quick on his feet.

In doubles it will be a little different and you will need to adjust your tactics to rely on shot pressure.  Shot pressure is used in doubles as a badminton tactic to keep the two opponents off their feet.

You need to adjust your return volleys to land in open spaces where it would be difficult for either player to get to quickly.

For a defensive strategy in singles play especially you will want to always begin from what is referred to as a central base position.

This position on the court will allow you to be at the ready to return virtually any shot from any part of the court with minimum loss of time.

The skills required here would give you the opportunity to return any shot quickly and plays upon the strengths and weaknesses in both you and your opponent.

If you return to the back, be ready in the back court and vise-versa for net shots and forecourt play. Don’t make the mistake of always heading back to your favorite base position as this could have consequences of you missing your shot.

The badminton tactic of forcing your opponent away from his own base is critical. You can always volley to the four corner areas of the court to keep them constantly on the move.
